Late Wednesday night, police captured the 14-year-old boy believed to be behind the stabbing death of a 15-year-old in Husum on the outskirts of Copenhagen earlier that day.

The detainee will now be questioned, Copenhagen Police Inspector Tommy Laursen told DR Nyheder.

The stabbing took place at a bus stop on Frederikssundsvej, and a major investigation of the crime scene is still ongoing, says the police inspector.

A lot is still unclear, but Tommy Laursen is willing to put into words what happened at the moment of the crime:

- The 15-year-old was driving in a bus from the city with a friend and got off on Frederikssundsvej. There is then an exchange of words with someone standing outside the bus. The now deceased is stabbed and subsequently runs across Frederikssundsvej, and we are contacted when he collapses at Åfløjen.

- We have a very large investigation of the crime scene underway, and we will also follow up tomorrow (Thursday, ed) by being out here, says Tommy Laursen.

He can't say anything about the motive behind the incident or whether the deceased and the 14-year-old knew each other.

- "We are working from several hypotheses - it's still very early in the investigation. We need to talk to the young man," he says.

Surveillance videos helped the police on their way

It was, among other things, material from surveillance cameras that enabled the police to detain the 14-year-old alleged perpetrator on Wednesday evening.

Because he is so young, he will not be arrested but handed over to social services after questioning.

Earlier it was reported that two young men had fled the scene after the stabbing, but the police believe they have detained the one who stabbed with the knife.

At this point, according to the police, it is not entirely clear whether the other man was also involved in the incident in one way or another.

The report was made on Wednesday afternoon.

SSP officers on the scene

DR has spoken to several residents who live near where the tragic incident took place, and they are concerned that this could happen in their neighborhood.

To them, the police inspector says that staff will also be present tomorrow to provide reassurance and to talk to citizens who may have questions or information they want to share with the police.

During the course of Wednesday, it was also reported that SSP staff were on site to make contact with young people in the area if they needed to talk to someone.

SSP stands for School, Social Services and Police and is a crime prevention collaboration between the three parties. Among other things, SSP aims to prevent children and young people from becoming involved in crime.

Parts of Frederikssundsvej are still blocked - but the Copenhagen Police will let you know when they have finished their work at the site and the blockade has been removed.
